The South Hams is a very rural, relatively undiscovered part of South Devon located south of Dartmoor and south west of Torquay with exceptional landscape beauty and contrast — a patchwork of fields, woodlands, rivers, estuaries, rolling hills and moorland surrounding historic towns and pretty villages. Much of the spectacular coastline and countryside has been protected, with its sweeping beaches and private coves along the sixty miles of spectacular coastline this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is ideal for an active family holiday, walking holidays or weekend short breaks.

Buckland is only 10 minutes away from the Blue Flag beach at Blackpool Sands and about 20 minutes from a surfing beach at Bantham, as well as eleven of the best natural beaches to be found anywhere in the UK including, Slapton Sands, Beesands, Lannacombe, East Portlemouth and Bantham and five river estuaries including the Dart, Avon, Yealm, Erme and Gara.

There is easy access to the South West Coast Path for walking and the wilderness of Dartmoor for walking, climbing and riding.

Buckland House together with the holiday cottages are tucked away in a tranquil sheltered valley surrounded by delightful farmland one and a half miles inland from the village of Slapton, with its world famous nature reserve and three-mile beach stretching from Torcross to Strete Gate. Buckland is ideally placed for all the attractions of the beautiful landscape of South Devon set halfway between the West Country’s most popular sailing centres of Salcombe and the river Dart. The southerly location and warm Gulf Stream creates one of the mildest climates in Britain. The summers are long, autumns warm and winters mild, so that you can enjoy a stay at any time of the year.

The South Hams offers something for everyone; the area is a Mecca for rambling, bird-watching, swimming, surfing, horse riding, golf and those interested in fishing, boating, sailing and windsurfing. Or just chill out and have fun by visiting our local Gastro pubs and restaurants.
